Draped Bust Half Dimes
Draped Bust Half Dimes were issued from 1796 to 1805. The coin's designer was Robert Scot. Coins were composed of 89.24% silver with the balance copper. The half dime denomination was revolutionary at the time. The prevailing monetary systems of the day used fractional measures in eighths. The US Mint struck coins in a system of hundredths with units in tenths and hundredths, including the half dime or half tenth.
